Heat exchanger cleaning by industry

Fouling follows the process. What builds up in a brewery paraflow has nothing in common with what builds up in a crude preheat train, and the two are not cleaned the same way.

01Choosing

Every sector has its own deposit and its own constraint on when work can happen

The deposit is the obvious difference. Seawater duty grows barnacle spat; a pasteuriser lays down denatured whey protein at one temperature and calcium phosphate at another; a crude preheat train cokes; a digester heating loop crystallises struvite. Each of those needs different chemistry, different tooling and in several cases a different trade, and a contractor who cleans one well is not automatically set up for another.

The less obvious difference, and usually the more important one, is the constraint on when the work can happen at all. A vessel sails. A refinery opens its exchangers at turnaround and at no other time. A brewery already cleans its plant every day and calls a specialist only when that has stopped working. A pharmaceutical site cannot touch qualified equipment without change control. A data centre never stops. Those constraints shape the method more than the deposit does.
